This study evaluated the association between dietary fish and
omega-3 fatty acids from seafood and the risk of cardiovascular
disease in a prospective cohort over 21,000 U.S. male physicians
who were participants in the Physician's Health Study. In a 4
year follow-up, there were 281 cases of fatal and nonfatal
myocardial infarction, 173 cases of stroke, and 121
cardiovascular deaths. There was no evidence for an association
between dietary intake of fish and any cardiovascular end point
including myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular
death. In this large, prospective study of U.S. male physicians
fish consumption was not associated during a 4 year follow-up
with myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death.
These facts also included the consumption of long chain omega-3
fatty acids from fish. 22861 [car]
Where do we get the pearls?
Today's Clinical Pearl is from the best database of
alternative health care research summaries that one person could
compile. The amount of information that Kirk Hamilton, the president of
I.T.Services, has compiled since 1989 is amazing. This material is one
incredible resource. His huge database, and many other publications are
for sale at the Clinical Pearls
Website.
